New Life Church of the White Mountains Story

New Life Church of the White Mountains is associated with the American Baptist Churches of Vermont and New Hampshire and the American Baptist Churches - USA..

New Life Church of the White Mountains (NLC-WM) began as a new church in April 2001 by Pastors Shirley and Dave Marcroft and the American Baptist Churches of Vermont and New Hampshire and American Baptist Churches - USA

During the first year of the church (2000-2001), services were held in the Marcroft's home.  A Steering Committee was established to guide the formation of the church.  Members of that committee came from area churches, a church in MA, and from the American Baptist Churches of VT and NH.  In April of 2001, the first public worship service was held on a Saturday evening at the Ashland Baptist Church.  We quickly outgrew that space and needed to find a larger building.  A perfect location in was found in downtown Plymouth.  NLC-WM renovated the former Blue Seal Feeds building in downtown Plymouth and met there.  Worship services were held on Sunday mornings.

Understanding the importance of money being spent mainly on helping people and outreach (instead of paying a high rent), the church accepted the invitation of the Campton Baptist Church to come to Campton, NH, and to use their church's auditorium / dining hall for a meeting place. Worship services were held there for 2 years.

Three large community ministries grew: New Life Thrift Shop, a food pantry,  and a community youth program / ministry for the area.

In June 2004, New Life Church of the White Mountains outgrew the space at Campton Baptist Church. We moved to the Campton Corners Shopping Plaza.  Ministry flourished in this location.

1 1/2 years later, a NH State Liquor Store wanted to rent space in the shopping plaza.  Current NH laws forbids a liquor store from being located within 200 feet of a school, church, or house of worship.  The church, community youth programs,  and the popular thrift shop were forced to move out of the plaza.   On January 14, 2006 the church, thrift shop, food pantry, and youth ministries relocated to a metal warehouse building on Owl St. in Campton.

On March 5, 2008 the building the church rented at Owl St. collapsed from the heavy snow weight on the roof.  After waiting almost two months for the snow to melt off the roof, the building was declared "safe".  3/4 of the building was destroyed.  God protected the portion of the building that was rented by New Life.  Most of the roof remained intact over the church, thrift shop, and food pantry.  In late April, we were finally able to enter the building, see the destruction, and reclaim those items which were left undamaged by the looters and the weather.  The building has been demolished by the owner.

The church was invited to provide worship services in Waterville Valley for the resort. For 3 years, church services were held in Town Square in the Meeting Place conference room. In the summer, outdoor services were held beside Corcoran's Pond. During ski season a second worship service was held on the slopes at the ski area.  When the resort was purchased by new owners in Oct 2010, the church services were no longer wanted in the Valley.  The final service was held in WV on Jan 30, 2011.

Recognizing people's need for real community, Pastors Shirley and Dave decided to form House Church gatherings.  This format provides a comfortable setting where all generations can gather for worship.  We meet at the Marcroft's house in Ashland each week.
